Daffodil the Chihuahua was born without two front legs. She was rescued by an awesome guy named Jene, who noticed Daffodil on the side of the street. She had been dumped in a cardboard box and people had walked by, ignoring her. One person picked her up, but on seeing her lack of front legs, tossed her back in the box.
Jene couldn’t believe his eyes and decided to step in. He picked Daffodil up, wrapped her in a shirt and took her home for some much needed food and lots of cuddles.
Once home, Jene realised that Daffodil probably needed more care than he was able to give at that time, so he sensibly took Daffodil to the San Francisco SPCA.
Daffodil was adorable: inquisitive, feisty and curious, just like any puppy with four legs!
She had already learned to get around well enough, but couldn’t channel her puppy energy into playful romping, or chasing toys, or running in circles like the other dogs. In order to give her the life she deserves, one full of puppy playdates and trips to the beach, we decided to get Daffodil her very own set of wheels. Because puppies deserve that. *Every* dog deserves that.
San Francisco SPCA realised this wasn’t a pup who was going to sit still, and wanted to make it easier for her to move around. What did they do? They got her a doggy wheelchair of course! Watch the video below to see how Daffodil got on with her super new means of transport!
Lucky Daffodil was adopted super quickly and now has a very loving home. Thanks to her guardian angel, Jene, the San Francisco SPCA and her adoptive family, Daffodil has a very happy life to look forward to.

This whole time, we sent pictures and videos of Daffodil to the prosthetics company, so they could get a better idea of her needs and how she was doing with the device. What we didn’t know is that one of the staff members there, Olivia, fell madly in love with our little Daffodil, but assumed that she was already spoken for. One day, they inquired about her adoption status in an email. When she learned that Daffodil didn't have a home yet, Olivia decided to submit her adoption application. She flew in from Colorado to take her home and provide her with a lifetime of love and specialized care. Because some people see value and love and potential and best friends—even in a broken little dog. There are people who will help find the perfect home for a helpless puppy. To make sure Daffodil has the prosthetics she needs to roll on the beach. They will pick up a stray pet and take them to safety. Or help feral cats. Or send a donation. Or volunteer at a local shelter.
