Sometimes, love, time and effort can be just as valuable as money. Steve doesn’t have any money, but he sure has lots of time and love, and puts in a whole lot of effort when it comes to saving stray dogs.
Arkansas resident Alicia couldn’t belive her eyes when she saw Steve one night as she was driving home. She spotted him on his trusty pedal bike with a trailer attached to it. On closer inspection, she saw that the trailer was full of dogs.
Alicia made a promise to herself that if she saw the man again, she would help him. Alicia kept her promise.

The next time Alicia saw Steve, she talked to him. She discovered he had been homeless since 2001. In all the years he had been on the streets, he had made it his mission to help others in the same situation. He chose to help stray and homeless animals. On the night Alicia stopped to talk, Steve was journeying with his dogs to see his girlfriend in Indiana. The journey was 2000 miles long and the ‘pack’ were planning on camping out for the night to rest.
Steve and his dogs had become a family, offering each other love and their time. Together, they were ‘Strays United’.
Alicia was so moved by Steve’s story, she decided to raise awareness of him via social media and by reaching out to animal advocates. Within two hours of telling the world about Steve, the donations came rolling in. One well-wisher even offered to drive Steve and his pack all the way to Indiana.
Steve and his dogs were able to sleep in a warm motel room that night, instead of camping out in the cold. They were treated like royalty and enjoyed a hot meal before getting some well-earned rest.
A representative of an organization that helps homeless people and animals heard about Steve and offered to help. Angela and her team have been providing support to Steve and his dogs ever since.
Steve’s dogs are getting medical help and are being spayed and neutered. Steve is being provided with a new trailer to make sure he and his furry friends never have to sleep in the cold again. Steve was overwhelmed by the generosity of the public and remains in touch with Alicia and her family – after all, his new life was down to her sharing his story.
Once again, time, effort and love turned out to be just the ticket for helping someone in need. The power of social media and people working together has meant a better life for both Steve and his dogs.
